The Magdalena Jacket is a beautifully detailed, heirloom-style crochet jacket featuring a soft, feminine silhouette, a full skirted shape, and a cosy hood.

Designed to be both practical and special, this timeless jacket works just as well for everyday wear as it does for family celebrations, christenings, birthdays, and photoshoots. It is a piece made to be worn, loved, and passed on.

Originally released as my very first crochet pattern design, the Magdalena Jacket has been carefully rewritten and updated with a refreshed layout, clearer instructions, additional sizes, and extensive video support throughout.

How It’s Made

The Magdalena Jacket is worked seamlessly from the top down, beginning with a shaped yoke that increases to form the body and sleeves.

Once the yoke is complete, the sleeves are separated and the body is worked in rows to the desired length. A signature ruffle row is then added to create the skirted shape, followed by gentle edging for a polished finish.

The sleeves are worked directly onto the armholes and shaped for comfort, while button bands and buttonholes are worked directly into the jacket, keeping sewing to a minimum.

A hood is added and neatly seamed using clear video guidance, creating a practical and cosy finishing touch.

This pattern includes colour-coded sizing, detailed stitch counts, and multiple linked video tutorials for techniques such as sleeve separation, join and turn, ruffle rows, and hood construction.

Materials You’ll Need

• 5.0 mm (US H/8) crochet hook (or size needed to obtain gauge)
• Aran / Worsted weight yarn
• Stitch markers
• 2–5 buttons
• Tapestry needle

The sample shown is made using Hayfield Bonus Aran with Wool (20% wool). You may substitute with any Aran weight yarn that meets gauge.

15 stitches and 12 rows = 10 cm × 10 cm (4 × 4 inches) in half double crochet.
